About Cypher Dance Collective

Cypher Dance Collective is a space for adult dancers of all skill levels and backgrounds to train, connect, and grow- founded by and for the members of the local San Luis Obispo dance community.

We offer affordable, weekly drop-in dance classes in Heels, Hip Hop, and Contemporary dance. We also offer 4-week dance fundamentals programs that provide an introduction to our dance styles.

Community is always number one at Cypher: once you step into class you'll find yourself welcomed in right away. Being a part of a creative community like Cypher gives you access to opportunities for performances, music videos, photoshoots, events, collaborations and other creative endeavors!

No matter who you are, Cypher is the place to refine your craft and find your circle!

Our 4-week fundamentals programs allow dancers to gradually gain confidence and experience in our dance styles, with personalized guidance from our teachers and a room full of dancers on your level. Perfect for brand-new dancers, beginner dancers, performance artists, or experienced dancers who want to strengthen their foundation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much are classes? Do you offer class packages?

Classes are $15 each at the door. We accept cash or Venmo. If a dancer is attending 2 classes in the same night, both classes will cost a total of $25 ($12.50 per class). Despite the quality we offer, our prices are far below the market rate; Cypher is committed to providing affordable access to dance training in San Luis Obispo. We currently do not offer class packages.

Do I have to wear heels in order to take Heels Dance classes?

Heels are not required to take Cypher's Heels classes. Dancers are welcome to come dance in socks, sneakers, or whatever they feel comfortable and safe in! 

What kind of heels should I wear to Heels Dance classes?

We recommend a heel that is designed for dance- brands like Dance and Sway or Burju are common choices among heels dancers and offer reliable dance heels. Ankle support and the proper heel type is a must- stay away from sandal heels, wedges, etc. When starting off, start with a lower heel and look for shoes that fully wrap the foot to provide maximum support. Shoe preference is personal, and Cypher is not responsible/liable for any personal footwear decisions.
